WHEN CHAMPIONS COLLIDE
|
There were World Champions-a-plenty at the Birmingham NEC yesterday (Sunday 9th December) when the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony took place. The 'cream-of-the-crop' of British sporting achievers were in attendance at the live television event and P1's Evolution Class title holders Craig Wilson and James Sheppard were there as representatives from the world of powerboating. This years crowning brought a peak audience of 8.6 million viewers to BBC1 last night.
The Fountain Worldwide-King of Shaves duo thoroughly enjoyed the evening, rubbing shoulders with fellow British stars including World Superbikes title holder James Toseland (pictured), one of ten people shortlisted for the prestigious 2007 Sports Personality of the Year award. Presented in front of a literal who's-who of British sporting achievers, the main honour was bestowed upon boxer Joe Calzaghe, the undisputed Super Middleweight Champion of the World.
The 35-year-old world super-middleweight champion finished ahead of Formula One star Lewis Hamilton, while boxer Ricky Hatton was in third place following his 10-round defeat by Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning.
