Following the tragic death of Sergio Carpentieri during the start of the German Grand Prix on Saturday, June 30th, the race officials cancelled the day’s race. In honor of Sergio, teams visited the site of the incident and cast flowers into the sea as they prepared for their race on Sunday, in which competitors placed “Sergio” stickers on their boat in tribute to the late driver. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergio Carpentieri and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends”, stated Louise Martino, Vice President of Fountain Worldwide.
On an emotional day for the sport of powerboat racing Craig D. Wilson and James Sheppard put together an impressive performance as they completely dominated the race from start to finish, putting Team Fountain Worldwide/ King of Shaves in the overall lead for the title of World Champion. “The Fountain Worldwide 42 is an amazing boat in itself, couple that with the proven experience of a crew with over 190 years of experience and the results speak for themselves,” said Craig D. Wilson, team throttleman and President of Fountain Worldwide.
Mark Wilson, Project Manager of Special Applications for Twin Disc was on hand to represent the company and oversee the application of their Arneson™ surface drive on the Ilmor powered King of Shaves boat. “Twin Disc is proud to be the propulsion system of choice on this high-profile race boat and we are pleased to have once again proven that the steerable Arneson™ surface drives are the way to go,” added Mark Wilson.
As the exclusive international distributor for Fountain Powerboats, Fountain Worldwide™ of Palm City, FL was pleased to have been joined in the top 4 spots by two other Fountain-built race boats. Team Searex Germany in a 42’ Fountain finished third in their recently purchased boat and team Limmi Offshore Racing of Belgium just missed the podium in fourth place with their 43’ Fountain.
Team Fountain Worldwide / King of Shaves will now prepare for the British Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious annual events in world powerboat racing held on August 25-26.
